What is roleplay? Roleplay can be sexual (I'm not going to explain that) or nonsexual.
A nonsexual RP on a forum site is usually between multiple characters. One will start a thread and write a small snippet of narration, to which others will reply with their character's snippets of narration in reaction to the starter snippet.
What does "RP" mean? Roleplay.
What does "RPG" mean? Roleplay/ing game.
What is "godmodding?" Godmodding is when you make your character overpowered and perfect, and create new powers to get them out of situations rather than taking advantage of a chance to develop them.
An example of proper roleplaying: Dave gulped as the man held a blade to his throat. At any minute he would be gutted: quickly, Dave knee-kicked the man in his crotch and grabbed onto the blade, hissing as it cut into his palm, and threw it far away from his offenser. He started running and hoped that the man wouldn't recover too quickly.
An example of godmodding: Dave blasted the man who had been holding a knife to his throat earlier before with his gun that he always kept in his coat, secretly. The man was dead: problem solved.
Godmodding can also be controlling other people's characters to extreme lengths, such as killing them or injuring them severely. A character can strike a character in a certain part, but it's up to the stricken character to decide how injured they are--it is also godmodding if the stricken character doesn't take adequate damage from a blow.
What is "power-playing?" Essentially the same as godmodding.
What is a "Mary-Sue?" A sue, whether it be a mary-sue or a gary-stew, is an overpowered and flawless character. While the author is usually trying to make their character likable, they're also trying to make their character the best of them all. Warning signs for a sue include:
-unnatural eye-color for the character's species
-extremely long, unusual names, though this can be forgiven if there's normal elements in an "original" name (Leland Albrecht, "Mississippi" Michaels, Juneflower McCormick vs. Auburn Willow Janice Wiccanworth, Skylar von Stardash XII, etc.)
-Flawlessy beautiful
-Few personality faults
-Claims to be popular/smart/etc. in character sheet but doesn't follow through in roleplay
-godmods
There are other warning signs, but it's generally an unlikeable character that's hard to play with because they always come out on top.
What's with the "place > place" thing? On a forum, using the > sign means "go to" or "click on." For example, directions to get to this Q&A thread will look like: ABC's > The Q&A
